FAIRLANE (2023)
DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT by luca leggieri
My cowriter Valerie Betts and I created what we felt to be an authentic and true representation of an LGBTQ romance. Although representation seems to be growing in the industry for the community, I personally felt I resonate with this story as I feel many other will as well. Our goal was to create a genuine love story with the reality that not everything works out and it’s not always a happy ending.
Writing this story, I drew inspiration from personal experiences such as, my first love, losing a parent in young adult hood and the grieving process that follows these events. We went through countless revisions to produce a film that captures the reality of young love in a captivating nature. This isn’t just a love story but a genuine story of two guys who’s encounter sparks feelings previously undiscovered. Often with youth comes naivety and safety and the ability to be vulnerable with another may be mistaken as love. The truth is only time will tell.
From day one being on set, it felt like a family and I think we all knew that we were creating something special. The amount of care and detail that everyone brought to the project touched me. It was a great feeling seeing how much people cared about this project and it is truly reflected in the final result. This story holds a special place in my heart and I hope that it finds a special places in others’ lives as well.
